The magnetic plate has two functions:
- To keep the puzzle pieces and connectors in place
- To ensure bonding between adjacent puzzle pieces

The magnetic plate generates a uniform static magnetic field over the whole of its usable surface. The magnetic field generated by the plate is very weak and is not a health hazard.
